NYE Singapore Style

I had been so focused on my KL/Bangkok trip, then busy at work when i got back, that new year's eve celebrations completely snuck up on me. i had seen some ads for a big party at siloso beach, which is in the island of sentosa. so pending good weather i think that was the game plan. but then when i did a little more searching i found a really cool party at the marina barrage, which is right on marina bay.

the marina barrage is an outdoor venue, its hard to describe but bascially it's right on the water's edge and its has this multilevel spiraling grass-covered entry way. the ground level is a beautiful pool with water jets and colors.. like the most swankiest LA party. then if you walk up the grassy ramp on the top there is a big grassy open area you can see the whole bay and city. the view is unreal. for the party they a big stage set up on the top area with some makeshift bars lining the edges. there were also bars on the bottom area too. this was definitely the coolest party venue i've ever been to. its completely gorgeous, the view is amazing, its OUTSIDE, and the weather was perfect that night.

we got there at abotu 10PM and the Effen was on first.. his set was pretty good. he was followed by Blank and Jones (which were the best i thought) from 12-2, and then Yoji from 2 to 4 then someone else from 4-6 but we left around 3. basically joelle and i have determined being a DJ is the best job in the world. you travel all over the world, work for 2 hours a night, and are basically revered as GODS by the crowd. one fist pump and the crowd goes crazy.

in addition to the awesome lineup, there were people painted silver that were stationary on the stage and in the crowd. there were fire dancers and stilt walkers. the music was just completely takes over and you just get lost in time. i met people from all over the world, including some guys from nigeria who i asked if they had a bomb in thier pants. i don't think they got the joke. we met this guy from brunei who was studying in australia at the moment. his name was johnson. he taught us how to do the melbourne shuffle (youtube it!). its REALLY hard and you can only do it for a few minutes before you need to take a break. or at least that's what happened to me.

when it turned to midnight, the was a 5 second countdown and then people were saying happy new year! but there really wasn't a big countdown or celebration. no noisemakers or confetti or dramatic kisses. then everyone just went back to dancing hahah. there was a fireworks show in the bay, about 10 minutes long, but unfortunately from where we were it was mostly blocked by these 3 new highrise casinos being built. but it was still a show, the portion we could see!!

overally the party was awesome, we danced, drank, went crazy, and it was a great way to start the new year. happy 2010 everyone!
