I got back to work on Monday afternoon, and although my boss had told me this would happen on thursday, Leong was back from the field! i've yet to meet him but ive been sitting as his desk for the past 6 weeks. so now i have a new desk right across the isle. stalin was setting up my computer for me at the new desk.
leong is cool, he's been out in the field in sabah while we've been in the office doing the engineering/reporting. he looks 16 but he says he's actually 29. he's seems pretty sharp and he can take a joke. i like him. beng hwee calls him the thorn amongst the roses. and sometimes it's the other way around hahah!
on wednesday sven took us to the dutch club for lunch. there was about 18 of us (just about the entire onshore staff). the holland club is really nice... kind of like a country club. there is a swimming pool and playground and they have celebrations for dutch holidays and things. it's good for the kids sven says. it was a great lunch; sven handed out service awards to beng hwee and mr. cheong, 10 and 25 years respectively. also faith (our word processor) has 10 years. i didnt have my camera with me this day but i really wish i did to take a photo of the whole team. the conversation was a bit quiet a i tried to talk to everyone but of course people have thier little cliques. i tried not to sit near the other girls. i sit with them everyday at lunch... this is a good opportunity to talk to others that i don't usually get to. on the ride to the dutch club, there were only a few cars so every car had 3 or 4 people in it. the other girls all go to ride together. but only two of them can go and there was a big debate over who would come in another car. who cares! its a car ride and you sit with each other for 10 hours EVERY day!!! i made sure to ride with sven and beng hwee. i want to have as much face time with them as i can and this was a good opportunity in a more relaxed setting. they are so different, and individually i like thier personalities for different reasons. beng hwee just says anything she doesn't care.. she's one of those people that will push until you set limits. she'll stomp all over you, but if you stand up for yourself she'll be really cool with you. i can appreciate that. she's very bright, thorough and in my opinion a very good engineer and i really respect her. Sometimes watching her interaction with sven is PURE comedy.
on thursday (NYE) we had a half day, which really turned into 2/3 of a day, of course, then i went to the gym. i'm not looking forward to the gym next month. it'll be WAY too overcrowded with all of the new years resolution people who will work out for a month then quit.
stay tuned for an AWESOME post about the best NYE party i've ever been to!
